Making this website easy for everyone to use

This website was designed for older people first. That means large, clear text, strong contrast, big buttons, short sentences and no clutter. We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA.

What we have done

• Text is larger than on most websites, and you can make it larger still using your browser's zoom (hold Ctrl and press + on a computer, or pinch the screen on a tablet). The layout keeps working at 400% zoom.
• Every button and link is big enough to press easily, and links are always underlined.
• Everything works with a keyboard alone, and with screen readers such as NVDA, JAWS and VoiceOver.
• Colours have been checked for contrast, and colour is never the only way information is shown.
• There is no moving content, no video that plays by itself, and no time limit on anything.
• The typeface, Atkinson Hyperlegible, was designed to help people with low vision tell similar letters apart.
